Seven years ago, I was kidnapped and held against my will by a monster who made me his 'bride'. I was kept for more than forty days -- 964 hours, to be precise. 964 hours of torment, fear, and humiliation. Each of those hours twisted me until I was no longer Carolyn O'Malley, a woman with a normal life, a woman who lived in a nice home on a nice street with a man who loved her, with a sweet little dog and a good job and a life just like yours...By the time I jumped out of a window and escaped, running naked through the snow to freedom, I was mangled into the person I am today, a scarred and crippled woman whose lover was brutally murdered, whose life was torn asunder, a creature who lost everything in those nights of terror. Now there's just one focus in my life Find the monster and kill him. I've spent the years recovering from my wounds, planning, and training for what I would do. My chance might finally be here, if I play my cards right. The FBI task force has laid a trap with my bodyguard, Ned Buchanan, as the bait. I'll be going into the trap with him and if I have my chance...Have you ever wondered what happens to us afterward, to those who were missed? Have you ever wondered how we feel, how we adjust to 'real life' again? Have you ever wondered what would happen if we could face our torturer? Have you ever wondered how good revenge might feel?

This is the first book I've read by this author and I really liked it. I found the heroine an interesting and refreshing character. I liked the fact that she is not the typical romantic heroine, she is a middle-aged woman who previously was the victim of a heinous crime. She was abducted forme her own home by a serial rapist, who also killed her dog and mortally wounded her partner. In spite of this, and the fact that as a result from her escape from the criminal she is now physically and emotionally crippled, she has fought hard to overcome her handicaps. I thought this book was cleverly written and although I was able to guess the true identity of the Groom before it was revealed, it was a gripping read. Really, really enjoyed it!Product details

Mist J L Wilson 9781467952736 Books Reviews
You never hear about the ones that get away. The victims of serial killers that manage to escape, perhaps because it just doesn't happen very often. The main character is a survivor of a serial killer, tortured, abused and left crippled both emotionally and physically. Instead of staying out of sight she has decided to flush The Groom out, but she ends up getting more than she bargained for. The concept and slow build up of the story reminded me of the film Copycat. Not the plot per se but the tension, the looking behind your shoulder type of fear. The writers plays upon a females inner fears and anxiety, Especially the scene in the bedroom when she has her eyes closed and describes what she is most frightened to find in the dark. I really enjoyed it, it was a page turner and kudos to the writer for the cover, I have only just noticed the picture within the picture. I received a free copy of this book for my review.
This was a surprisingly interesting book. The main character was kidnapped, tortured and abused for 40 days, seven years prior. She was the only victim of this madman to have escaped. Her life has been hard, as she has dealt with emotional, psychological and physical issues, but the overriding force as been her plan for revenge.
She works closely with the task force to try to find and capture the villain. It is now clear that she will be the bait to finally draw him in. The events that pursue drew me in. I liked the characters and the different personalities that interact. The hunt for clues was interesting and the interpretation of the clues made for good detective work.
I would recommend this book to those who like something different in a mystery. This will fill the bill. Some of the elements are pretty intense, which may not appeal to some. I received a free copy of the book in exchange for writing a review.
Mist is a compelling psychological thriller that captivated me from page one. Wilson takes us on a suspenseful ride as we enter the life of Carolyn O'Malley; the woman who escaped from the sadistic serial killer known as the Groom. The tale was fast paced, with twist and a little romance. I read this over two evenings.
Carolyn O'Malley was the only one to escape from the serial killer known as the Groom. He grabbed her in her home and seven days later made her his bride. He held her for over forty days before she jumped from a window and made her escape. Permanently scarred both mentally and forever physically, she has spent the last seven years helping the FBI. They have created a task force know as the Bridegrooms. Ned, an ex-military buddy of her late partner, has been living with her as a bodyguard. Every year on the date of her escape, the Groom sends a sympathy card. Carolyn has spent the last seven years secretly plotting her revenge. After Carolyn escaped, the serial killer changed his MO. He began taking girls in the spring and fall; each girl resembles Carolyn. If she changes her hair color, he changes his victim. The FBI task force believes she is the key and together they will lay a trap to capture him.
The tale that unfolds sent me on quite a ride, as Wilson slowly revealed what occurred during the forty days Carolyn was held. As Carolyn works with the FBI, we learn they are keeping things from her and she is keeping things from them. The clever twists and reveals Wilson provides kept me engaged, as I connected with the characters and worried about them. The relationship between Ned and Carolyn is unique. He has spent the past seven years acting as her bodyguard, maid, nurse and friend. Ned is deeply in love with strong-willed Carolyn and deep down she knows this. As Ned hints about life after the Groom, Carolyn must address how she feels about Ned. The climatic, weekend ending, was gripping and a surprise reveal left shocked. After I closed the book, I realized Wilson had cleverly dropped clues along the way.

Genre Mystery
This book was a total page turner; I finished it in one night. A woman named Carolyn O' Malley at the age of 41 is taken from her house from an intruder on Windsor Street in Pittsburg. As the story is unfolding is where the reader can figure out how it happened and what it all involves. It's like the reader can feel the emotional scars left behind from the torment she has to deal with from the attacker's invasion of her home and life.
The story starts out where Carolyn and Ned are together for three years and he acts more of a body guard than a lover. He protects her whenever they may go. So the story tells of this abduction that happened seven years ago.
Carolyn sees a psychologist for treatments, physical therapy, learns marital arts, learns to shoot a gun, and walk again because two of her toes are amputated and wants to meet her attacker head on and murder him for that he has done to her.
What is so interesting is all of this information does not spoil this story and will shock you until the very end. If you have had an abuse of any sort in your life and wish to read this story the twists and turns will take you to the event and all the investigations with a amazing ending.

This was by far the best book JL has written. I was sucked in from page 1. It's a great psychological thriller and a must read for those who enjoy not figuring out "who done it" till the end. Great work, JL!
